Ice Boots for Horses

Icing has been found to help limit the initial symptoms of laminitis. This blog outlines how our ice hoof boots for horses can help limit the symptoms of laminitis and relieve pain.

What is Laminitis in Horses?

Laminitis is a ver painful condition that affects the horses’ feet. It occurs when there is inflammation of the laminae – the sensitive tissues that bond the pedal bone to the hoof wall. It can affect any horse, but some types are more prone to laminitis than others. Usually, laminitis results from an underlying hormonal disorder, such as equine metabolic syndrome or equine Cushing’s disease.

Laminitis is a veterinary concern and you should always contact your vet immediately if you think your horse has laminitis.

Laminitis and Icing

When it comes to laminitis, prevention is always better than cure. You should always aim to prevent laments through good management practices, and your vet will be able to advise you on this. Maintaining a healthy weight, good diet and proper hoof care are all key to preventing laminitis.

However, if and when laminitis does strike, you can take steps to relieve the symptoms and minimise pain. Icing can be used to bring hoof temperatures down, reduce inflammation and relieve pain.
