The Effect of Lunging

effect of lunging on horses' legs

It’s not just ridden work that our horses need to recover from, when we lunge on a circle this creates a very unnatural repetitive force on the horse’s musculoskeletal system including the horses lower legs. In order to balance on a lunged circle, the horse leans into the centre – a little like a motorbike going around a corner! As the horse is asked to go faster they lean in more and more creating a greater angle. Essentially, the greater the speed, the greater the angle, the greater the stress on the lower leg.

The angle of the horse causes the legs and feet to strike the ground unevenly. This puts unnatural strain on the tendons and ligaments.

Lunging is a useful and often necessary tool for riders, applying cryochaps after lunging cools the leg quickly aid recovery and reduce inflammation. Get yours now  #NoLegNoHorse #CRYOCHAPS #MakeLegsLastLonger
